Dee Wright Observatory near McKenzie Summit is where
we first discovered the Lava Fields of OR. The observatory offers unique perspectives of
the mountain drama all around, a revelation showing the birth of a mountain.
There is volcanic ash EVERYWHERE up there.
Smith
Rock is Oregon's rock climbing destination, though many hikers enjoy the view.
They call this one of the 7 wonders of Oregon, and it surprised us how much we
enjoyed our own type of climb up Misery Ridge. Yes, J made fun of me since I toted my Machiato all the way up Misery Ridge.
I am not sure how many folks would sign up for a hike entitled Misery
Ridge, but we loved the view once we got up there! One of the things I love about being out West
is how you can see the valleys and just see so far in general.

About this spot I started thinking about this verse: "I tell you," he replied, "if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out." Luke 19:40.
A very good morning.
Newberry
crater is a caldera of a 500-square-mile volcano that remains very active
seismically and geothermally. Geologists believe the park sits over a shallow
magma body that isn’t too deep.
One
of the unique parts of the crater is the “big obsidian flow”, over a mile in
length and 200 feet deep, with huge chunks of obsidian scattered about like shattered
black onyx jewelry.

40 something degree water on the other side of that log, but I was toasty!
